Kalanchoe Duo in Stripe Pots

Kalanchoe don't do subtle, and this candy-striped duo is no exception. Two compact plants, each covered in tiny flowers that hang about for weeks rather than days, so you get all the colour of a bunch of flowers without the bin trip a fortnight later.

They're succulents underneath all that colour, storing water in their leaves, so a missed watering here and there won't do any harm. Give them a few hours of direct sun and let the soil dry out properly between drinks.

Safe around pets and little ones, and about as low-maintenance as flowering plants get (perfect if the person you're buying for isn't exactly known for their green fingers).
